Central Gardens is a hugely popular park with the locals. Commonly called 'Rocket Park', this recently re-done playground contains a huge rocket that children can climb up. There is a mighty long slide about three-quarters of the way up for a quick return to earth, otherwise the ladder does the job. Broad-shouldered parents beware: you might get stuck. This is definitely designed for kids, although adults will appreciate the view.

There is a wide variety of equipment that will entertain children of all ages, and beautifully kept lawns to lay the picnic rugs on. Train lovers will enjoy counting the trains as they zoom by on their way to town or out to Lilydale.

The one major drawback of Rocket Park is the carparking, or lack thereof. There is only street parking available; most of it requires a permit and the rest is taken up by students from neighbouring Swinburne University. The only time we have been able to park near this playground has been very early in the morning.
