From the City of Melbourne
"The reinstated parkland reflects the broader landscape of Royal Park with gullies, grasslands and woodlands.
The features of the park, such as plants and play elements, represent the seven Wurundjeri seasons, as a way to encourage discovery and understanding of Indigenous Melbourne.
Features of the parkland include:
open grassy lawns
natural vegetation
a nature-based play space
seating
drink fountains
picnic tables
BBQs
networks of paths invite you to explore further into Royal Park.
The accessible, nature-based play space includes a climbing forest, a rocky escarpment with slides, swings and water play elements."
Absolutely fantastic play experience, congratulations to Council.
The only warnings are:
- toilets are 350m and 700m away
- bring spare clothes for the water play features
Review:
Accessible by the Airport West 59 and West Coburg 59 trams. Parking available at the Hospital (very limited on street). Not close to a good coffee, but there is a Subway in the hospital complex next door.
Missing shades and fencing but whatever, this is one of the best in Melbourne area.
Lots of climbing equipment and ropes and things for the older children. The features are out in the open so you would run into shade problems on a hot day. Nice grass areas near by for you to just relax. Lack of toilets near by is definitely a downside and also difficulty getting parking during the day. A nice space though.
One of our favourites! Make sure to bring spare clothes and waterproof shoes to enjoy the wonderful water play, plus you can duck into the hospital for sushi so no need to pack a lunch.
We love how much thought and care has been put into creating the different seasonal areas, it makes it feel really special.
