Jones Reserve

The new playground at Jones Park is an absolute treat for children and adults alike. The best view of the beautifully-landscaped area is from the 4-metre high climbing frame. From this vantage point one can watch children swinging on swings, driving diggers in the sheltered sandpit, leaping across giant stepping-stones, making mushroom music and jumping on accordion tyres. Climbers can also clamber up the rope ladder, stairs or climbing wall to reach to top of the fort and then zoom down the slide or firemen’s pole.

The fort is an ideal spot to check on the progress of lunch; below is the jasmine-entwined shelter containing two tables, each with its own gas barbeque. The picnic area is always clean and water is available. The area is planted with native vegetation and the playground is unfenced. While this allows it to blend into the natural surroundings, parents should be wary of the playground’s proximity to busy Albion Street.

Jones Park also contains a basketball ring, native garden, frog swamp, and a giant hill for tumbling down. The hill provides spectacular city views and is Brunswick’s top spot for viewing fireworks. Behind the hill is Allard Park: here you will find a full-sized oval, lawn bowls and another playground. Also abutting Jones Park is the Brunswick Velodrome and Merri Creek. A 7-minute walk along the bike path (south) will take you to the CERES Community Environment Park, their popular café and the closest public toilets.
