John August Reserve is a very lovely place. The playground is tucked in the side of the hill and overlooks the parklands, which boast some truly lovely trees.

The playground is brand new in 2011 and includes monkey bars, pommel walks, small climbing wall, curly slide and a small teeter-totter. A little further down the hill is a pyramid rope-climber and a whirly-gig, along with some swings. Definitely an area for the older kids.

From the playground you get to admire a magnificent river red gum that is centuries old and registered on Boroondara's Significant Tree list. In 2005 it was measured at 29 metres high, with a trunk diametre of 134cm. A grand old fella.

One word of warning: the reserve is a dog-off-leash area and the playground is not fenced.
