Recently replaced in 2003, the playground at South Surrey Park is particularly lovely. Set in a quiet street next to a kindergarten, and surrounded by huge, flowing trees, the playground is both attractive and entertaining. The brand new equipment includes a climbing wall, pommel walk, lots of monkey bars, a double wave slide, abacus, noughts and crosses, and much more. The cypress pine decking rises to quite a height so that kids can slide a long way down the fireman's pole. Unsteady toddlers need careful watching up here, as they do when sliding down the deceptively fast single slide. There is plenty of room underneath the structure for shop and home play, and also plenty of shade. An old carousel was retained from the previous playground and is hugely popular.

There are a couple of bench chairs and one table next to the playground, but no toilets or barbecue. A playground of this standard certainly deserves to have these and no doubt would then attract people from further afield.

South Surrey Park extends further North and South for a short way and is slowly undergoing revegetation and tidying up by the local 'Friends of' group. Little explorers will have a great time here once they've had enough of the playground (that will take a long time!).
