Karkarook Park is an odd sort of place. Built in 2004, the park was created as a wetlands area for birds. I'm sure the birds love it, but, from my perspective, the whole park is rather bland. Interestingly, we visited this park at 3.30pm on a sunny Saturday and we were the only visitors to the playground, with only a handful of others walking through the 6km's of paths.

The playground itself is okay. There are all the usual bits of play equipment: slides, monkey bars, fireman's pole, clatter bridge, etc. But the configuration makes it more suitable for slightly older kids than ours (20 months and 4yo). There are no toddler swings with belts and the platforms are quite high off the ground. The only thing our littlie could easily do was rock on the spring riders. Both children required close supervision all the time. There are no seats close to the playground for the parents and there is no sun shelter at all.

A short walk away are barbecues, tables and chairs, and some information about the creation of the park, which does make interesting reading. There is a map of the parklands which marks the playground as being accessible to the disabled, which it most certainly is not.

Beautiful, relaxing surroundings. Hard to believe that one of melbournes busiest road is meters away.
The playground could have been better but kids still liked it.
