Young Street

Absolutely gorgeous playground full of all sorts of surprises and hidden treasures in the surrounding gardens. Perfect for toddlers but have seen plenty of older children having tons of fun on the tea cup ride. Very easy to spend a few hours here!

Grasmere Children's Playground is a lovely shaded playground which is fully fenced, with rocking horses, enclosed climbing frame with several different slides, swings, stepping stones etc.

I wish I could write saying that Grasmere Children's Park is a safe, wonderful experience - and it was for my child - but unfortunately it was not an entirely safe facility. The teacup ride is extremely broken and while my child was riding it with another child who was not more than a year of age, the child's hand was trapped in the under workings of the machine damaging his hand. He was screaming and we could not remove his hand from the under pinning. We were able to reverse the ride and eventually remove his hand. The mother then rushed the child out of the park and I am uncertain of the outcome. I am shaking as I write this - it was a horrific experience.

I have contacted city council and asked for the repair/removal of this ride. In this interest of getting the word out about safety I wanted to post here as well in case it can save any little fingers.

If you frequent this park, please, please take care of your children's fingers and do not let them handle the inner axel or wheel on the ride- I'd keep mine away from it all together. I can't bear the thought of this happening to someone else's child.
