The playground is nice and in reasonable condition, with swings, slides, forts on a sand surface, and a separate twirling climbing frame nearby. It gets morning shade and late summer afternoon shade from tall trees but is sun-exposed in the middle of the day. There is plenty of space for running around and playing games in the reserve, much shaded by trees. The toilet block is by the carpark.
The path through the reserve continues via steps down the side of the hill to the Swan River, and a pontoon suitable for swimming and diving.
Success Hill Reserve is an important old gathering site for Aboriginal tribes pre-settlement and in the 19th century. It is also the location of a freshwater spring possibly of significance in Captain Stirling's explorations. There are several info boards in the reserve that talk about the history of the reserve, Aboriginal significance and myth, local wildflowers and Aboriginal culture. You can see the spring, now with a formalised concrete surround, from the path down the hill.
