We were greeted by the raucus chirpings of rainbow lorikeets, corellas, cockatoos and magpies when we visited this wonderful park. Heywood Park is stunning because of the trees; huge, magnificent, thick-trunked trees. The overall feel is one of native forest. The play equipment is bordered by fallen logs with numerous stepping and sitting logs dotted about the place. There is a great cubby house, a couple of spring riders, swings, a teeter-totter and a great long slide that has been built around a huge, old tree stump.

There is a fenced off area in the middle of the park that surrounds three endangered grey box gums. Unley council is attempting to rehabilitate these stressed trees by preventing foot traffic from further compacting the soil around the roots. I hope they are succesful.

There are chairs and tables all through the park, babecues, a drinking fountain, a toilet block with change table and plenty of tree shade. A really, really beautiful park.

Update Jan 2007: An extra play area has been built to further enhance this beautiful park. See the bottom two photos.

Fun playground but not great for runaway toddlers! Suits the older child.
